Resources

Listed below are links to resources we think are invaluable to your Shiloh Shepherd journey.

  • TSSR — The Shiloh Shepherd Registry
Our Shiloh Shepherds are registered with the TSSR. The TSSR website holds information on health testing and links to breeders.

  • ISSDC — The International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club
We support and are members of the ISSDC breed club. The ISSDC website has a wealth of information on Shilohs as well as information on upcoming litters and breeders.

  • Shiloh Zone
The ShilohZone web site is an evolution of the ShilohZone Chat Group on Yahoo the Zone's primary goal is education.
Health Related
  • OFA — The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
OFA has a wonderful open database of health tested dogs. Please note, however, not all dogs who have been tested are listed, it is up to an owner's discretion to add their dogs information to the open database. If dogs are noted as being tested, but are not listed in the database, please ask to see official OFA certificates as all Shiloh Shepherd specific registries require a minimum criteria of passing hips. Other OFA tests of note to Shiloh Shepherds are include thyroid, heart and elbows.

  • PennHip— University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program
The official PennHip website. If Shilohs are noted as being Penn tested, please ask to see official PennHip reports and be familiar with what they mean. The PennHip DI mean on a given breed will fluctuate depending on the amount and results of dogs submitted for screening.

  • PennHip Teaching Module — University of PA
I find this site more beneficial in understanding the PennHip process than the official PennHip site.

  • CERF — The Canine Eye Registry Foundation
Although eye diseases are not as prevalent in Shiloh Shepherds as some other "testable" conditions it is suggested CERF exams are done yearly on breeding dogs. This is currently not required by any Shiloh Shepherd registry to breed a Shiloh, but you will find many owners and breeders are doing it. Two of the more common disorders we are encountering are Pannus [CSK/Pannus] and Corneal Dystrophy. You can verify CERF numbers on their website as well as now being listed in the OFA database.

  • Bloat Information — at Raid the Wind
Familiarize yourself with the signs of bloat, your quick actions could save your dogs life.

  • Shiloh Zone 911 — at Shiloh-Zone.net
Diseases, disorders and emergency health situations you should be familiar with owning a Shiloh Shepherd.
Natural Care Resources
  • WDJ — The Whole Dog Journal
The Whole Dog Journal is an invaluable resource for dog owners of any breed as it is a monthly guide to natural dog care and training. It features natural care, diet and training advice, information about complementary therapies like chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and homeopathy, as well as tests, reviews and evaluates products.
